The purpose of the Passenger Boarding Bridge Supervisor is to manage and lead the maintenance and operations of the aircraft-to-terminal boarding bridge system (PBBs) at the airport, ensuring safe, reliable, timely, regulatory-compliant performance of the boarding bridge infrastructure and supporting smooth aircraft turnaround and passenger boarding/de-boarding.
- Supervise the daily activities of the boarding bridge operations and maintenance team (including technicians, mechanics and contractors) to ensure all PBBs are ready, functional and safe for aircraft docking.
- Schedule and oversee preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of boarding bridges, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control/PLC systems, to minimise downtime and maximise availability.
- Monitor the condition of boarding bridges (structure, moving parts, interface seals, safety systems) through regular inspections, identify defects or emerging issues and initiate repair/upgrade actions.
- Coordinate with airside operations, gate operations, airlines, ramp/ground-handling services and terminal operations to plan docking stand assignments, bridge attachments/detachments and ensure interface readiness.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, security and aviation regulations pertaining to PBB operation—airside driving, electrical safety, FOD control, structural integrity and user-interface safety.
- Maintain and manage maintenance records, logs, work orders, spare parts inventories, vendor/contractor performance, and produce performance reports for senior management.
- Manage staffing: allocate resources, enable shifts, develop technician competence, deliver training, supervise contractor work, and ensure situational coverage (including on-call or emergency response).
- Drive continuous improvement of boarding bridge operations: analyse downtime and fault trends, propose upgrades, optimise maintenance strategies and liaise with engineering/asset-management teams.
- Enforce and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for boarding bridge operations and maintenance, ensure team adherence, and update procedures in line with regulatory changes or technology updates.
- Lead incident/near-miss investigations when boarding‐bridge equipment failures or docking issues occur, liaise with safety/airside teams, compile root-cause analyses and track corrective actions.
