Working as a senior member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most-vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the Health Coordinator will work closely with the Health and Nutrition Advisor, to coordinate, support, monitor and evaluate projects within Medair’s Health and Nutrition programme (including protection) throughout Syria, to be in line with programme requirements.
Involvement will also include coordination of sector response with external stakeholders and participation in the development of new proposals and overall Medair strategy.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Health Project Coordination (in coordination with Health and Nutrition Advisor)
- Responsible for the coordination, support, monitoring and evaluation of projects within Medair's Health and Nutrition programmes (including Protection) within Syria to be in line with programme requirements and any applicable national and international guidelines and standards.
- Supervise the technical quality if the health project implementation and provide feedback to the project team to ensure technical quality standards are met
- Responsible for all centrally coordinated activities for Health, Nutrition and Protection-related programming aspects
- Actively participate in national health, nutrition and protection sectors and technical working groups.
- Conduct regular field trips to clinics and other health facilities for support, monitoring and evaluation purposes.
- Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
- Oversee the timely process of data collection, collation into reports and dissemination to meet the requirements and deadlines set by Medair and/or external partners.
- Participate in the development of the country strategy, new projects and/or donor proposals
Staff Management
- Participation and input in the recruitment of health-related staff, and in ongoing development and training
- Facilitate clear, regular and bilateral information-sharing with health staff across all bases
- In coordination with Health and Nutrition Advisor, ensure that health staff members across all bases are regularly updating and developing their technical competence
Communication and General Coordination
- Coordination with relevant Medair internal departments for Health, Nutrition and Protection-related programming
- Develop and maintain positive, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures and lead in liaison with MoH, SARC and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies and other NGOs) on Health, Nutrition and Protection- related issues, with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
- Participate in Health and Nutrition coordination meetings, Medair internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings as required, representing Medair and feeding back to the Health and Nutrition Advisor other Medair staff on relevant issues
- Liaise and coordinate directly with MoH/DoH to get regular access and relevant approvals for project activities.
Logistics
- Support the area bases (Area Managers and Health Officers) in coordinating the logistics activities of the Health and Nutrition programme (including Protection), particularly in relation to the procurement, warehousing and delivery of supplies and equipment across all bases to ensure smooth operations
- Facilitate together with the Health and Nutrition advisor the process for technical evaluation of medical equipment and supplies.
