1. Scope of Work
The Chief Accountant is responsible for leading and managing the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger functions to ensure accurate financial accounting, timely reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with policies, IFRS standards, and regulatory requirements. The role oversees daily finance operations, month-end closing, and supports audits, budgeting, tax, and management reporting.
2. Duties, Responsibilities & Authorities
Financial Operations Leadership
- Manage, supervise, and guide the AR, AP, and GL accounting teams to ensure efficient and accurate processing of transactions.
- Ensure correct application of accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures.
- Review and approve accounting entries, journal vouchers, and reconciliations.
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Ensure timely processing and payment of supplier invoices in accordance with contracts, agreements, and payment terms.
- Review vendor reconciliation and AP ageing reports and resolve long outstanding balances.
- Maintain strong coordination with Procurement, Treasury and business units to support operational payment requirements.
- Monitor supplier advances, prepayments, retention balances, project cost allocations, and related schedules.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Oversee invoicing, collection follow-up, customer reconciliation, and accurate revenue recognition.
- Review AR ageing reports, monitor overdue balances, and escalate collection concerns to management.
- Coordinate with Sales/CRM and Legal on customer accounts, contracts, and dispute resolutions.
- Monitor customer advances, retention receivables, and credit limits.
General Ledger & Month-End Closing
- Supervise month-end closing process ensuring all accruals, provisions, amortizations, and adjustments are recorded.
- Review balance sheet schedules, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and ensure accuracy of ledgers.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting standards.
- Maintain chart of accounts and financial structure in ERP system.
Audit & Compliance
- Act as primary contact for external and internal auditors.
- Prepare audit schedules and ensure timely completion of statutory and internal audits.
- Ensure compliance with taxation laws (VAT/Corporate Tax), regulatory reporting, and financial controls.
System & Process Improvement
- Drive automation, ERP enhancements, process simplification, and improved workflows.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen internal financial controls.
Authorities
- Approve transactions within Delegation of Authority.
- Recommend improvements and corrective actions on accounting, process, and reporting matters.
- Supervise performance of accounting team members.
