The purpose of the BHS Supervisor is to lead and manage the baggage-handling system operations and maintenance teams at the airport, ensuring the baggage handling system (BHS) is available, reliable and efficient, in compliance with safety, security, operational service level agreements and airport standards.
- Supervise and lead daily operations of the baggage handling system (incl. check-in conveyors, sortation, inbound/outbound baggage, reclaim belts) to ensure smooth, continuous baggage flow.
- Monitor system performance indicators (throughput, jam rates, downtime, error rates) and ensure service-level targets are achieved; escalate issues and drive corrective actions.
- Coordinate and oversee maintenance activities for the BHS and associated equipment (conveyors, diverters, PLCs, scanners, sorters), working with technical teams and contractors to minimise disruptions.
- Manage shift handovers, staffing levels, rosters and team performance across the 24/7 baggage operations environment, ensuring adequate coverage, training, and incident preparedness.
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and quality-standards (airside rules, baggage screening, equipment permits, housekeeping, FOD control) within the baggage handling domain.
- Liaise and coordinate with airlines, ground-handling agents, airport operations, baggage system vendors and other stakeholders to resolve interface issues and improve process efficiency.
- Lead investigations into system faults, jams, baggage mis-routing or other operational disruptions; document findings, root-cause analysis, implement corrective and preventive measures and monitor outcomes.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, reports and dashboards of BHS performance, incidents, maintenance activities, resource utilisation and present to senior management.
- Review, update and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency response plans (for system failure or contingency), preventive maintenance plans and system upgrade implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for baggage handling system processes, equipment optimisation, cost efficiencies, and training of staff to enhance reliability and customer experience.
